Richmond is a small town in central Maine with much to recommend it. Situated on the Kennebec River across from from Swan Island Wildlife Refuge, it is about 45 miles north of Portland, and 30 miles south of Augusta. Bowdoin and Bates colleges, 25 and 35 minutes away respectively, offer diverse cultural and educational opportunities, while Reid State Park and Popham Beach, each 40 minutes away, offer the rugged natural beauty of the Maine Coast.
Our home is located approximately one mile outside of town, and surrounded by woods on three sides. It is just minutes away from the waterfront and river. Out between Swan Island and Little Swan Island is a a cool, quiet, beautiful spot for drifting on the tide with a picnic dinner. Abandoned railroad tracks, minutes away, run along the river providing a lovely place to walk, snowshoe or cross country ski for miles without interruption.
